Under Colonel Diz Astaire's renowned leadership, the regiment is scattered by a sortie of undead pouring forth from Grafton town one half-mooned night. Major Ampe DeMunt, despite experience in this sort of situation, fails to impose much order on his battalion's flight, and also dies. Algie's siege works are over-run – by pitched-and-flaming zombified former residents. However, Captain Tuft rides to and fro along his company's line of retreat, beating back the flaming enemy, facilitating disciplined withdrawal. Although the skirmish is inconclusive overall, Algie's company is saved, and protects the routing regiment's rear as they flee along the road to Haltby. The battle nearly over, Captain Tuft pulls a straggling trooper onto his horse, up from the claws of the shambling horde that had been closing in upon him. The reason for the man's sloth is quickly discovered, and confiscated: 200 Crowns of plunder - Hurrah! [MA +1 (4+1=5); Defence +3 (12+3=15); Public Hero +3 SP for next three months in Society]

Being in the Main the Activities of Several Gentleman Adventurers during June, July & August 2089
Summer Military Campaign: HARDALE Summary: The Campaign is hugely successful – the recalcitrant town of Hardale is bloodily taken. All our Gentlemen survive, unscathed! Three of them return as Heroes... Details: The plan of Field Marshal, General Karl Artlesse, Count of Soudall, succeeds impeccably. The Cantabrian Cavalry hunt down rebels in the Forests of Veloii. An especially large group of rebels were contained in the forest by a squadron of the Warlord of Raz's Cuirassiers, until Captain Algernon Tuft's brave troop fetched the Queens's Own Lancers to the scene. Thereafter, the rebels were swiftly exterminated – none will now spread their filthy lies against His Majesty's noble elven allies! Meanwhile, grimly determined Infantry relentlessly battle their way into the town of Hardale, heedless of losses. The mainly dwarven Red Mountaineers regiment took the gates, but were repulsed. Save for the company of Captain Scorpio Undrentide, who determinedly held position, among his fallen troops. Until relieved by a battalion of the Sarcophraz Pikes, whose Sergeant Hackenbush raised a bloodied Royal Purple banner high on the ramparts – and broke the rebels' will to resist. Trials commenced and the executions began within minutes thereafter. When word got back to 1st Army command, Adjutant Colonel Lord Faradin Thane of the Red Mountaineers said Capt Undrentide would have been promoted had superior ranks not already been filled with loyal officers, and describing his regiment's grievous losses “...a price well worth paying.” The 3rd Army (Brigade of Guards), in reserve at the town of Rotill, briefly came under rebel blockade but conducted an admirably aggressive Defence and broke the siege with a sortie. NB: Scorpio & Algernon having thus been mentioned in despatches twice, the King will consider each of them for ennoblement with the title of Knight [Roll 6+ rqd (on d6), F9 to influence].

The battle nearly over, Corban intervenes as a huge zombie troll, ridden and commanded by an expectorating greenskin shaman vengefully bears down on stragglers of his retreating company. The monstrous creature grabs Corban's mount by the legs and pulls two off, simultaneously taking a huge bite from its belly – Corban's left foot with it. He falls, and knows no more. But Captain Corban's body is retrieved and carried from the field by some peasant levies, grateful to him for their lives, and is discovered not to be dead - just maimed. Hurrah!
